All Aboard the Multilingual Bus on European Language Day!
Celebrate European Language Day on Friday September 24 and get a taste of French, German, Italian and Spanish language and culture. Step on board the multilingual bus and enter Europe. The bus will stop at a variety of Sydney’s hotspots where a range of activities highlighting European culture and languages will take place.
European Language Day is organised by Sydney’s main European cultural institutes including Instituto Cervantes, Goethe-Institut, Alliance Française, Istituto Italiano and the British Council. Together, they form EUNIC in Australia Sydney, the European Union National Institutes for Culture.
The aim of European Language Day is to create European awareness, provide information about upcoming cultural events and showcase language courses at the various institutes.
“Language learning is a fun and fulfilling activity; leading to enriching experiences, new career opportunities, as well as, cultural and personal development”, says Alessandra Bertini, head of EUNIC in Australia Sydney cluster. “Opportunities to work and study abroad have increased people’s competency in speaking foreign languages, affording new career possibilities in media, government and commerce.”
European Language Day kicks off at 10am at Waverley Library with the puppet show Harlequin – Frog Prince, by Murphys Puppets and the presentation of the winners of the “Thinking about Europe” competition.
Between 10am and 5.30pm, the bus will stop at prominent locations throughout the city including Bondi Junction, the USYD campus and Newtown with a grand finale and concert at the NSW State Library.
European Language Day is a free event and suitable for all age groups. So come join us on Friday September 24 and experience the colours of Europe!
