European Memory by cartoons
A touring exhibition introduced the European Union and its member states to teachers and their pupils, parents and their children in an original and playful form. This project of EUNIC in Austria originates into Czech cartoon TV-series European Memory, created in 2009 to mark the Czech Republic’s presidency of the EU. All episodes are available here.
From 16 September to 28 October 2010, the walls of the Czech Centre Vienna were decorated with colourful and lively panels, each representing a EU country. Besides the screening of the 28 three minutes episodes of the cartoon series, five member institutes presented their respective country (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia) for young pupils of Austrian Schools.
Film director and curator Marie Procházková explained the whole project to the audience and turned to the most interesting part of the opening: an animation workshop. The children and their teachers were allowed to produce a small animation film on their own.
Language crash-courses, dancing, quizzes and other surprises stimulated children to learn about their European neighbours in an enjoyable way.
The aim of the project was to help parents, teachers and especially children to discover the versatility of the EU-countries and to encourage interest in other cultures.
