EUNIC in Chile  launches its programmes at the Festival of Contemporary European Drama in Santiago (27 August - 5 September),  held at the Goethe-Institut, the Cultural Centre Gabriela Mistral and the Italian Institute of Culture. Spanish translations of plays by authors from Austria, France, Germany, Italy (and also Spain in original version) having enoyed their premiere for less than two years  enter the competition.
A   Chilean jury of playwrights, directors and critics is to select two plays from each country to be presented either as staged readings or  staged by Chilean directors. Workshops and exchanges with the  European theatre professionals invited for the festival(Spanish playwrights José Manuel Mora and Paco Bezzera, Swiss expert Silvie van Kaenel, German theorist Hans-Thies Lehmann and French authors Frederic Sonntag and Koffi Kwahule) will help this kick off event turn into a lively encounter between   European and  Chilean theatre.

The  Chilean ministry of Culture will subsidize the future extension of the festival to other cities in Chile.
