Literature Nights

Posted on 03 February 2011

European Literature Night is based on the premise of literature being a unique creative tool reflecting the elementary dialogue between single voices and cultures who share the same reading experience. Literature is the tool of mutual understanding, cultural exchange helping to break down communication barriers.

Central to literature is translation and publishing. European Literature Nights celebrate and support the translation of contemporary writing and work with publishers to increase the availability of European literature.

Organised by Czech Centres in cooperation with EUNIC (European Union National Institutes for Culture) Literature Night’s  aim is to offer the platform to European  countries to present their contemporary writing and to present new European literary voices in a creative way.

Each city adopting the theme develops its own programmes. In 2011 18 European cities from Moscow to Madrid will take part as well as extending to Israel and Vietnam.
