A charity concert for Haiti following the earthquake of 2010, a range of successful film series – including the recent ‘Golden Bear’ series of films from across six decades which have won the main prize at the Berlin Film Festival – almost fifty readings by European authors as part of the Europa literarisch series, the presentation of new forms of literature and theatre, scientific and social debates on topics of the day, a European online competition for school students and a European Roma and Sinti Festival: These are just a few examples EUNIC Berlin’s multifaceted programme of events.

Europa literarisch takes you on a journey into the rainforest: Markéta Pilátová will be reading and in conversation with Thomas Wohlfahrt about her new novel Má nejmilejší kniha, which appeared in a new German translation, Mein Lieblingsbuch, by Julia Koudela-Hansen-Löve and Christa Rothmeier in 2012 (Braumüller Literaturverlag).
Cinema Total 6 – Europa Endlos by EUNIC in Berlin, 9–13 February
A programme of events for film experts from Central and Eastern Europe during the Berlin International Film Festival. Endless Europe: Alongside its general aim – the promotion of Central and Eastern European cinema during the Berlinale – Cinema Total this year takes an ambitious step beyond traditional European boundaries to examine the film industry from the perspective of Eurasia. In particular, the series will examine opportunities for cooperation between Russia and Europe as well as the newly structured Russian film industry.
Access to Culture Platform Working Group on Audience Participation: an Inventory of Challenges
The first research publication of the Access to Culture Platform is published: “The Cultural Component of Citizenship: An Inventory of Challenges.” In the publication, 19 renowned authors and researchers from all over Europe and the world share their insights on the opportunities and challenges related to developing citizenship in Europe through culture. The book is launched in the framework of the Brussels Conversations 2012, organised by the European House for Culture and partners where it served as a conversation starter for participants and contributors. It is available in print and digital formats.
EUNIC Cultural Fellowship - Call for Proposals by EUNIC in Croatia, deadline 31 March
With a view to identifying emerging Croatian cultural leaders from both the public and private sectors and engaging them with cultural institutions in the EU in a way which will create a lasting impact, the EUNIC Cluster, Croatia in cooperation with the Croatian Ministry of Culture has decided to create a EUNIC Cultural Fellowship. The Fellowship will be granted in the year 2013 for the second time.
Film discussion on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day by EUNIC in Krakow, 27 January
On the 27th of January, the EUNIC Cluster in Krakow organised a film discussion on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The event started with the presentation of the film trilogy by the Dutch-Israeli artist Yael Bartana “And Europe will be stunned” which was Poland’s official entry to the Venice Biennale in 2011. Following the film a discussion on the film’s content was moderated by former chief commissioner of Jewish Museum Vienna, Dr. Felicitas Heimann-Jelinek.
'Munich – a city of literature' by EUNIC in Bordeaux, 22 January
On 22 January, the Goethe-Institut Bordeaux, member of EUNIC in Bordeaux, invited the citizens of Bordeaux to a reading of passages from novels of Thomas Mann, Wassily Kandinsky and Ernst Augustin. The reading was a part of the “Literary cites – European cities” series of events and was organized in cooperation with EUNIC and other partners in the context of 50th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty. More than 80 people came to the Goethe-Institut to hear the interpretation of “Die Buddenbrooks”, “Rückblick” and “Raumlicht: Der Fall Evelyne B.”. Moderation by Nicole Pelletier, professor of the University of Bordeaux 3 and reading by Marie Rouvray and Jürgen Genuit.
Preparatory Action on Culture in the EU External Relations
A consortium led by the Goethe-Institut has been mandated by the European Commission to conduct a Preparatory Action on Culture in the EU External Relations. The consortium, which relies on a team of renown international independent experts, is composed of the following full partners: the British Council, the Danish Cultural Institute, the European Cultural Foundation, the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (ifa), the Institut français, KEA European Affairs and the Center for Fine Arts (BOZAR). In addition, EUNIC Global is an associated partner.
Cluster fund - Thank you for your submissions!
In 2012 EUNIC has created a new funding opportunity for EUNIC clusters around the world. The opportunity attracted an enormous interest and EUNIC has received 41 proposals from 37 clusters. The general quality of applications was very high, which made the final decision very difficult. At the end projects from twelve EUNIC clusters have been awarded funding. This includes clusters from Austria, China, Croatia, Egypt, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Jordan, Palestine, Turkey, US Washington DC and Brussels. We congratulate all sucessfull clusters!

Poliglotti4.eu promotes language learning and language diversity in Europe with help of Language Ambassadors. The Ambassadors work in the field of education/language learning/promotion or have reached their current position in the field of entertainment, politics, economics or other because of his/her knowledge of several languages.
They tell us about their life and about their experiences with language learning and how languages helped them to be where they are today.
