First European dance festival in Vietnam
Two European dance companies and a choreographer will highlight the first festival of contemporary dance in Vietnam (8 and 9 September 2011 in Hanoi). Artists from Wallonie-Brussels and Italy will perform their own creations, while a German choreograph stages a premiere with Vietnamese dancers.
Cie Karine Ponties from Wallonie-Brussels will perform Benedetto Pacifico (featuring Ricardo Machado), a short solo closing the choreographer’s “Scarecrow Cycle”.
Italian company Oplas, founded in 1993, has created numerous dance shows for the theatre and for non-conventional spaces and received awards from the public and international critics. Every Oplas show differsfromeachotherwhilemaintainingasamechoreographic style, beautyanddrama.
German Choreographer Hans-Henning Paar will work out with the ensemble of the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet a new choreography, after the music of “Der Tod und das Mädchen” (Death and the Maiden), one of the most mysterious and emotional compositions of Franz Schubert (1797 – 1828).
The story of the young girl gently conducted by the Death into the hereafter, her fear, pain and final resignation, has inspired artists throughout the times. For Paar, it represents the antithesis to the restlessness of our modern lives where mortality seems to be excluded. Schubert’s beautiful and dramatic music contains a huge scenic potential that is extremely inspiring for a choreographer.
